Argentina Dove Hunting La Dormida

pz argentina dove1757.jpgArgentina dove hunting experience built on 20 years distinguished experience. La Dormida lodge is the most exclusive dove hunting accomodations yet offered in Cordoba and received acclaim from Argentina's journals of design and decoration. This is the Argentina dove hunting experience intended for personal design: Built by the pioneer of Argentina wingshooting, this lodge is especially reserved for exclusive use by parties of 4-9 hunters, 12 guests maximum.  This is the absolute perfect setting for exclusive groups of friends, family and business associates.

The lodge staff has been specially trained in the art of caring for private parties.  Meals feature the very best Argentine beef and other meats, and menus are prepared by one of Argentina's best chefs. Carefully selected Argentine vintages complement field lunches and dinner in the lodge.  As some guests have stated, the wines alone are worthy of the visit.

Starting with legendary field lunches, meals are a highlight.  Since dove hunts are typically brief, ala carte evening dining is offered. Choose from among five or six different chef-prepared entrees and salads each evening. The lodge features 5 single- and 2 double-occupancy bedrooms, an in-house masseuse, an outdoor hot tub, satellite phone and internet connectivity.  A spacious, fully-stocked complimentary bar, recreation room, and gun cleaning room are additional features.

From the moment you arrive in Argentina, service is personalized and attention is paid to every imaginable detail, from airport reception, to uniformed bird boys in the field. This standard is unequalled, and makes a visit to Cordoba a shooting holiday forever remembered.  For non- shooting guests, shopping trips and tours of the historic City of Cordoba are available.

The hunting program generally begins at 8:00 AM with a hearty breakfast and short drive to the shoot.  In the field you will be assigned a pick up boy, who will provide you with shells and refreshments and direct you to your shooting stand.  The shooting is situated in a flyway, where the doves are flying to and from their roost to grain fields to feed.

You will be constantly visited by your field host who will be available to assist you with any need.  Depending on the time of the year you will shoot until noon and then be treated to an incredible asado, or barbeque lunch, shaded by a comfortable safari tent, tasting some of Argentina's wonderful beef and superb wines.  Hammocks are available afterwards for those so inclined.

Afternoon hunting begins at around 2:00- 2:30, and continues until almost dark. There is no definite time to close the shoot.  Return to the lodge for cocktails and early dinner.

Daily Routine - Cordoba Argentina Dove Hunting

7:30 a.m. - Wake up call. We're only 10-15 minutes from the shooting stand so you can enjoy a little more sleep. If you're an early riser, join us for fresh coffee in the outside dining area. Keep in mind that the driving from March-June is longer so wake-up is earlier

8:00 a.m. - Breakfast is served. Help yourself to fresh fruit, muffins, toast and eggs before you begin your day. You will definitely want to try the Argentinean favorite, dulce de leche.

8:30 a.m. - Head out to the field! Dove hunters will be caravanned to the fields. The morning hunt lasts 3-4 hours and is adjustable according to your preference.

12:30 p.m. - Enjoy a traditional Argentinean asado (BBQ) field lunch. Feast on delicious, homemade empanadas, dove brochettes, pork sausage, tenderloin, ribs, skirt steak, pork chops and much more.

1:30 p.m. - Free time. Enjoy an afternoon nap in one of our comfortable hammocks/cots. Because of shortened daylight hours during the winter months, our winter guests may not have the benefit of this extended period of free time.

3 p.m. - Enjoy the best Argentina dove hunting in our fields during the 4-hour afternoon shoot. After the shoot, enjoy a professional upper- or full-body massage from one of our local masseuses. Also enjoy an afternoon cocktail and snack by the Texas fire pit. Recount the day's events and compare stories with fellow hunters.

8:00 p.m. - Dinner is served. Taste a variety of local seasonal favorites including our famous cuts of Argentinean beef. Chef Topo's Italian night is another guest.

End your evening on a high note with a Cuban cigar and premium label whiskey or scotch.

Gratuities - Cordoba Argentina Dove Hunting

Gratuities for lodge and field staff are not included in Argentina dove hunt package cost since tipping, in general, is discretionary.  Because clients have repeatedly asked that we provide general guidelines the following is suggested:

  • $35 per bird boy, per guest/day
  • $30 to $40 for the household staff, per guest/day
  • $50 to $100 for your shooting guide, per person for the total stay.

As an example, for a 3-day Argentina dove hunt you will spend approximately $300 in tips, which is $100 per day.  Guests should tip pick-up boys directly in the field.

"Cordoba Dove Hunting in Argentina was the trip of a lifetime.  I've been married twice and neither treated me as well as the staff in Cordoba Argentina.  If the food wasn't 5-star, it was at least 4.9-star.  I've never seen so many doves in my life, shot all I wanted, and then shot more.  Thank y'all for arranging this trip.  I will recommend GetDucks.com services to everyone."

mark adcock 1.jpg"I've never in my 38 years of hunting have had a better hunting experience, it was truly a once in a lifetime trip. Everything described by Ramsey Russell at GetDucks.com exceeded my high expectations, from the lodge, guides, food, landscape not to mention the 13,000 doves we shot.

It was unbelieveable. There was a bond made in those Argentina mountains, words truly don't do this trip justice. I look forward to taking my 3 sons to this wonderful place for an Argentina dove hunt. There are still memories to be made, and endless doves. Thanks for everything!"

wes thomas.jpg"We just returned from our first Argentina dove hunting package organized by GetDucks.com and wanted to thank you for all the legwork. I usually have mediocre expectations first time out with any outfitter, but this trip surpassed even my highest possible hopes for an excellent dove hunt.

It was worth every penny and would do it again tomorrow. We're already on board again for next year!"

Chan Brount"I have a must do list of things I'm determined to do in my lifetime. Dove hunting Argentina was on my list along with diving the Great Barrier Reef and fly fishing Alaska.

By chance I read a post on a duck hunting website from a GetDucks.com group that had just been to Uruguay duck hunting with some awesome pictures. They liked it so much they were already planning a trip for the following year (2006). I called Ramsey Russell of GetDucks.com and told him that I was interested. Luckily there was an opening and I already knew one of the hunters.

I didn't know what to expect but boy was I surprised!! I killed more ducks in 4 days than I had the entire preceding season. In just 2 and 1/2 days of dove hunting I probably killed more dove than I had my whole life! Not only was the hunting exceptional but the accommodations and food were excellent. What ended up as a hunt of a lifetime was the wing-shooting adventure of 2 lifetimes. I'm already scheduled again next year. Ramsey pays special attention to the details; right down to matching personalities within a group to make sure everyone gets along. Thanks Ramsey for a great trip I'll never forget."

See you next year,

- Chan Blount

810 img_2550.jpg"Hunting is an all year passion fueled by the enjoyment of preparing fields, actually hunting, socializing with friends and reliving the experiences over a scrumptious meal and fine liquors. For forty plus years, I have relished that privilege here in the great State of Mississippi.  During the past ten years, I reached a chronologic age and station in life that afforded the opportunity to chase some of those childhood hunting dreams.  After multiple waterfowl hunts in Canada and a recent African safari, I was keenly interested in high volume dove and duck shooting in Argentina.

I received a multitude of suggestions on Argentina outfitters and lodges.  In my opinion, Ramsey Russell is first class, a pleasure to hunt with and be around. I choose GetDucks.com because I know Ramsey will move mountains to make an Argentina hunting vacation the trip of a lifetime.  Boy, did he deliver this time!

He is well organized, efficient, and thorough. His wife, Anita, coordinates flights, paperwork, and logistics.  Complete turn key services and they are always available to answer any questions or solve travel problems if they arise.  A month before we left, we met Ramsey at Tico's Steak House.  He provided last minute tips and insights about what to expect. Talk about a prelude of things to come!

Words can't adequately describe hunting in Argentina.  We first enjoyed 4 days of superb Argentina duck hunting under very comfortable conditions, with phenomenal numbers and many different species.  Stellar accommodations, parakeet shooting during the midday lull, libations as requested, a multi-course dinner with edible art for dessert made me think I was at the Ritz Carlton instead of a duck hunting lodge.

Ramsey coordinated a personal guide for our overnight in Buenos Aires.  I strongly recommend taking advantage this service.  The guide arranged an excellent dining experience and made sure we caught our flight to Cordoba the next morning and resolved a problem at the airport.

Cordoba dove hunting is indescribable.  Personal guides, more birds than one can imagine, and the opportunity to shoot until literally one doesn't want to shoot any more.  A delightful lunch prepared over an open fire and served with excellent red wine, followed by a short siesta broke the day into two halves, each rivaling the other as to which was more fulfilling.  As one arrives at the estancia, there stands Diego with one's drink of choice.  A stint in the hot tub rehashing great shots and comparing ridiculous numbers of doves taken, followed by a one hour relaxing massage made the meal almost seem anticlimactic or one would think.  The diversity of entre choices prodded me to hit the shower and quickly regroup so as not to miss an opportunity to add a pound.

I had the privilege of enjoying this trip with one of my best friends and his son, and another friend and his stepson.  We enjoyed exclusive use of La Dormida, and Ramsey paired us with some excellent new friends at Jacana.  The intimacy of small groups was perfect.  We're always made to feel like friends, not customers.  I strongly recommend Ramsey Russell as hunting travel agent and GetDucks.com's Argentina wingshooting programs.  I eagerly await the opportunity to return, and yearn for the time when my son will be old enough to share this special experience."
