"It took until 10:30 on the first morning, but
closed the deal with Osceola gobbler number 3 of the morning -
a 19.5 pounder with 9-inch beard and 1.25-inch
spurs. The first two involved very close encounters on great
osceolas. Lost count of the number of Osceola
turkeys seen over a 3-day peiod. Spent the last 2
days of my osceola turkey hunting trip shooting with a long
camera lense, and scored some more real Florida trophies.
These guided Florida Osceola Turkey hunts are not getting any
cheaper. The lodging is comfortable and convenient, the
host is knowledgable and friendly, and the osceola turkeys
plentiful. I was impressed with the number of exclusive-use
properties among several counties and zones. In these
regards, this Osceola turkey hunt represents value." ~ Ramsey

Osceola Turkey (Florida Wild Turkey)
The Florida wild turkey, or Osceola turkey
(Meleagris gallopavo osceola) as it is more commonly
referred, is found only in the central two-thirds of the Florida
peninsula. W.E.D. Scott, named it for a famous Seminole Chief,
Osceola, and first described this particular wild turkey subspecies
in 1890.
The Osceola turkey is similar to the eastern wild turkey, but is
generally smaller and darker in color. There is
characteristically with less white veining in the wing quills. The
white bars of the wing's primary feathers are narrow, irregular,
broken and typically do not extend fully to the feather shaft. The
black bars predominate the feather. The secondaries are also
comparably darker. When the wings are folded on the back, there is
an absence of the whitish triangular patches seen on easterns.
Feathers of the Florida turkey appear more iridescent green and
red coloration, with less bronze than the eastern. The dark color
of the tail coverts and the large tail feathers tipped in brown
resemble easterns, but are unlike the lighter colors of the three
western subspecies. The Osceola turkey's colorations and behavior
are ideal for the slash pine woods, oak and palmetto hammocks of
central Florida. Hen Osceola turkeys exhibit duller and
lighter coloration throughout, except wing feathers, which are
darker.
The reproductive cycle for the Florida wild turkey begins only
slightly earlier than for the eastern wild turkey in nearby
southern statesm but in southern Florida, turkeys gobble and strut
during warm spells in January, several weeks before actual mating.
Egg laying occurs mainly during April and the cycle is completed
with peak hatching usually taking happening in May.

I enjoyed my Florida Osceola turkey hunting
trip and got to watch a couple Osceola toms die while there. The
guide was very easy to get along with and it was nice watching the
birds around his house when not hunting. He knew his
areas and where the birds would be. By talking to him,
he doesn't over hunt his land. The bunk house could use a little
spucing up, but it was perfectly comfortable.
Ramsey puts alot of time and work into picking out outfitters to use. He is also very helpful with any questions that arise. GetDucks.com is a quick and easy way to pick a reputable outfitter that you know has been checked out.

Everything about our Osceola turkey hunting
trip was first rate. We wanted to make sure we had the best
opportunity to harvest an Osceola and put our trust in Ramsey
because of the hard work he does finding reputable outfitters to
work with. This Florida osceola turkey hunt exceeded my
expectations.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and had pre-scouted these birds for weeks before we arrived. He had them down. I had actually talked to him on the phone the week prior to the hunt and he asked it would be ok it we just doubled on opening morning. I laughed and told him that would be just fine.
He kept his word. Five minutes after sitting down we had our 2 osceolas lying on the ground with a third gobbling at them. It was awesome.
I now completely trust Ramsey as wanting nothing more than to
make our hunt memorable and successful. I highly recommend
GetDucks.com to anyone wanting to go on a good quality hunt.
